Setting up a Swap
Search by location.
Find available swappers in your ideal city. If you don’t find desired results, try a different location.
Do the research.
Make sure a potential swapper is right for you. Check out their home, shop and availability.
Talk to your boss.
We highly recommend getting an approval from your boss before you contact a potential swapper. Learn how to convince your boss.
Make connections.
Get to know the creatives you’d like to swap with by making them friends. Once you’ve found a match, it’s time to sell yourself. Send potential swappers a direct message and let them know about your availability, city, home and office space.
Hammer out the details.
Once you’ve decided to make a swap, be sure to get everything in order. Make sure your finances are covered, travel dates and living/office space are arranged and a process is in place for working remotely. See our starter kit checklist for first time swappers.
Making a Swap
Leave.
You will travel to your swapper’s city while they travel to yours. For an enhanced experience you can overlap a day at the beginning and end of your trip to meet up with your swapper.
Arrive.
Once you arrive, you’ll stay in your swapper’s home, just as they’ll stay in yours. Be sure to make your home welcoming before you leave. As usual, you’ll pay your rent or mortgage plus utilities so there is no additional cost for lodging during your swap. Think of it as an exchange program.
Work.
During your swap you’ll go to your swappers place of work—cubicle, private office, home studio—while working remotely for your company back home. Just like you, your swapper will be spending their day at your desk.
Play.
While you are working hard for your team back home, don’t forget to take advantage of your new surroundings. Be sure to travel, make friends and immerse yourself in your new culture. When in Rome…
Return.
When it’s time to depart, make sure you leave your new home and work space as nice or nicer than you found it. Travel home and tell everyone about your new ideas, experiences and how SwapYourShop changed your life.
